Biography
Nicole Sullivan (born April 21, 1970) is an exceptionally talented American actress and comedian. Her six seasons (1995–2001) on the sketch comedy program MADtv are her claim to fame.
She also portrayed Holly Shumpert for five seasons on the CBS sitcom The King of Queens (2001–2005, 2007).
Nicole Sullivan portrayed the recurring character Jill Tracy on Scrubs. She portrayed Mira Nova in Disney/Lightyear Pixar’s Star Command and Shego in Kim Possible on the Disney Channel.
She played Franny Robinson in Disney’s Meet the Robinsons. She had recurring roles on Family Guy.
Her Lifetime television series Rita Rocks aired from 2008 through 2009. She played Marlene the Otter in The Penguins of Madagascar from 2008 until 2013.
Jules’ (Courteney Cox’s) therapist in the comedy Cougar Town was her character, Lyn Mettler. She portrayed Lyla in the 2012 Disney Channel movie Let It Shine.
Nicole Sullivan portrayed Wilma Basset on the Nickelodeon show Wendell & Vinnie in 2013. From 2014 to 2022, she portrayed Janine, the Johnsons’ next-door neighbor, on the ABC sitcom Black-ish. In DC Super Hero Girls, she also provided the voice of Kara Danvers, aka Supergirl.
Childhood and education
Nicole Julianne Sullivan was born in Manhattan, New York, United States, on April 21, 1970. She is Jennifer Sullivan’s sister and the daughter of former New York state assemblyman Edward C. Sullivan and entrepreneur Madonna Sullivan.
She began dancing at age seven and went on to participate in the First All-Star Theatre on Broadway. In 1982, she graduated from Middleburgh High School, where she was class treasurer, a member of the soccer team, and a member of the student government.
After graduating from Northwestern University in 1987, Nicole Sullivan majored in theater and wrote skits and plays for the student theater.
During her junior year, she attended the British American Theatre Institute in London and joined the Greenwich Shakespeare Company.
She moved to Los Angeles after graduating from Northwestern University with honors to pursue an acting career.
Career
In 1995, when MADtv debuted on television, Nicole Sullivan was a member of the show’s initial cast. She created a multitude of characters, the most famous of which was the cunning Van Come Lady.
Her other aliases included X-News reporter Amy, the dimwitted Antonia, the head of the Eracists, Debbie, Diane Lawyer-Trabajo (pronounced “tribal”) from News at 6, and the Hispanic bimbo Lida.
She played alongside Michael McDonald in a MADtv sketch mocking their acting abilities on an audition tape for Law & Order; she subsequently guest-starred in the season one episode “Contact” of Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. The November/December 2009 issue of Making Music Magazine profiled her.
Between 2001 and 2005, Nicole Sullivan portrayed Holly Shumpert. 2007 marked her return to the role for its last season. Holly is a dog walker for the majority of the duration of the show. The Heffernans pay her to “walk” Arthur, Carries’s father, in order to get him some exercise and keep him out of mischief for a time.
One of the main characters in the animated series Futurama, Turanga Leela, was originally cast as Nicole Sullivan, but Katey Sagal replaced her before the episode aired.
She has voiced numerous characters, including Marlene the Otter on Nickelodeon’s The Penguins of Madagascar, the first television series in the Madagascar franchise, Shego on Kim Possible, Joan of Arc on Clone High, Mira Nova on Buzz Lightyear of Star Command, and Joan in the Family Guy episode I Take Thee Quagmire. She has also appeared in the pilot Me and My Needs, which ABC rejected.
She portrays Franny Robinson in the film Meet the Robinsons. Nicole Sullivan lent her voice to the Monsters, Inc. video game as well.
She portrayed Luna in the 2007 computer game Ratchet & Clank: Size Matters. In 2012, she voiced Supergirl in the animated short series Super Best Buddies Forever, which aired on Cartoon Network’s DC Nation block.
The role was transferred to the DC Super Hero Girls television series, leading to appearances on Teen Titans Go! and the May 24, 2022 release of the direct-to-video crossover film Teen Titans Go! and DC Superhero Girls: Mayhem in the Multiverse.
Personal Affairs
Nicole Sullivan is married to the actor Jason Packham. Dashel Pierce Packham and Beckett Edward Packham were born in May and August of 2007, respectively. She dated Seth MacFarlane previously (1998–2000).
