Ugwu Wilson, popularly known as Grace Bouy-GRL (Born 28 September 1998) is a genius figure of Indigenous Gospel rap with international recognition. The man is also a singer, songwriter, and a Humanitarian, He began his career in 2021, and today, he is one of the most influential Gospel rappers in Nigeria.

Grace Bouy-GRL was born on 28th September 1998 as the fifth of five children. He is a native of Enugu State, but he was born and bred in Enugu, Nigeria. For his education, the musician attended Abia State University, Uturu Nigeria.

He joined a Gospel Rap team at Gateway International Church his place of worship where he was given the opportunity to grow his music career.

Grace Bouy-GRL began Singing and Rapping in his teenage years and initially was drawn more toward creativity.

He also learned to create his own rendition of every recording he heard. He started profiting from music during his third year at Abia State University. After relocating to Abuja in 2023 after school, he shifted focus to his career as a rapper using his nickname, Grace Bouy-GRL.

The Rapper hail’s from, Igbo Etiti LGA, Enugu State, Aku Diewa village and a member of Gateway International Church Lead by Pastor George and Manuela Izunwa.

As an Ambassador of Gospel Rap music in Igbo language, he shared his thoughts on the indigenous language and why he rap in Igbo “I grew up speaking, But I grew up in Benue State, and I do not agree with people who feel that the Igbo language is facing some sort of extinction. I think the presence of music has done a lot of good to the Igbo language. Outside this country, Igbo songs are being played and listened to.

And it is likely that they would go around asking their Nigerian friends what the meaning of the song is. As far as I am concerned, Igbo language is not dying. And if it is, I will blame parents and teachers for not doing their work, because if you look at the number of gospel songs in Nigeria, you will find out that majority of them are done in Igbo. And for those who sell these gospel songs in the market, it will be absurd to tell them that Igbo language is dying. And I think it depends the aspect we are looking at it.”

On gaining acceptance from those who do not understand Igbo, he said, “I know there is nowhere in Nigeria that my music is not played. I do not only rap in Igbo; I also combine a bit of pidgin and English. Sometimes the lyrics are English. Let’s not also forget about the beat. So, when these elements are rolled into one, those who do not understand all of the rap will definitely flow with the beat. And I should say one beautiful thing about music is that beside language (which is never a barrier), we can still appreciate a piece of music whenever we hear it. I can listen to a Ghanaian song even when I do not understand what they are saying, An indigenous Afro Gospel artist from Ghana sent me his song that he actually wanted a collaboration with me and believe me when I played the song I couldn’t understand some wordplays but I ‘Wowed at the flow and the melody! And I Said This guy is on point.’ I listen to French songs. I do not understand French.

The Philanthropy Of Grace Bouy -GRL

Grace Bouy-GRL established the Save the street kid’s with GRL foundation in 2020. The foundation is based in Enugu, Nigeria. It’s aim is to empower the orphans and orphanages, and to provide them with the opportunity to go to school and to become relevant in the society,

In 2023 He also Received an Award from the Nigeria Association of Microbiology (NAMS) In Recognition of his contributions and support towards humanity and people’s development at Nnamdi Azikiwe University during the South East convention, after he gave scholarships to the orphans and orphanages while he was still an undergraduate students in the university.
