Nollywood actress Ini Edo recently opened up about her divorce, expressing her happiness with the decision to end her marriage. Ini Edo married Phillip, an American-based businessman, in 2008, but their union faced challenges and ultimately ended in September 2014 due to allegations of domestic violence and infidelity.
During an interview on the Channel Television program ‘Rubbing Minds,’ Ini Edo cited irreconcilable differences and incompatibility as the main reasons behind the collapse of her marriage. She reflected on the distance between them, with her husband residing in America while she remained in Nigeria, suggesting that being together may have helped them understand each other better.
When asked if her former husband was comfortable with her acting career, Ini Edo revealed that he initially accepted her profession as an actress. However, she acknowledged that her work commitments often caused issues and interfered with various aspects of their relationship. While she attempted to maintain decency in her roles after getting married, there were certain roles she had to reject due to family considerations, not just her husband’s preferences.
Ini Edo also addressed the involvement of her former husband’s family in their marriage, explaining that as the youngest child, it was natural for family members to monitor their child’s well-being. Reflecting on her time in the marriage, she expressed that she didn’t regret it but considered it a learning experience that made her stronger, wiser, and more mature.
Overall, Ini Edo candidly shared her perspective on her divorce, emphasizing personal growth and the lessons she gained from the experience.
