Mr. Omemiroro Maxwell Ogedegbe, Director-General of the Conference for the Actualization of Human Rights, has stated that if nothing is done to address the country’s insecurity, there may be no election in 2023.
During a conversation with a DAILY POST correspondent at his office in Effurun, Delta State’s Uvwie Local Government Area, the lawyer issued the warning.
He described the state and Nigeria as “at war with itself,” emphasizing that “the nation is at war with itself.”
The rate of kidnapping, armed robbery, assassination, terrorism, banditry, and other crimes, according to the human rights activist, is worrying.
“Injustice and criminals” have taken over Delta State, he said.
He claimed that if politicians want elections to take place, they must first address insecurity, otherwise the hoodlums will swallow them up.
“Recently, we heard of the attack on the Abuja-Kaduna railway,” he said. Along the Benin/Ekpoma expressway, two lawyers and a driver were kidnapped. At the conclusion of the day, the kidnappers discussed the ransom with the families, and the lawyers were released when the money was paid.
“This is a country that gave us the sense that we had something to do with biometrics, NIN,” says the narrator. Kidnappers will be unable to have a field day with all of these arrangements in place. However, this is no longer the case.
“In Nigeria, kidnappers are having a field day, and the government is content to sit back and continue milking the people; our aggregate money that has flowed into the government purse is what the administration is busy enjoying.”
“Personnel who should be asked to defend Nigerians have been assigned to politicians to protect VIPs. We’ve been thrust into a precarious predicament.
“The few remaining security officers are just out to harass and brutalize unarmed individuals.”
