The House of Representatives has decided to intervene in the alleged forgery of the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result by Ejikeme Mmesoma. The resolution was made on Wednesday after a motion was moved by Awaji-Inombek Abiante during a session.
Ejikeme Mmesoma, a student of Anglican Girls Secondary School in Nnewi, Anambra State, has been in a dispute with the Joint Admission and Matriculation Board (JAMB) over her result. Mmesoma claimed to have scored 362, while JAMB disputed this, stating that she actually scored 249 and accusing her of forgery.
During the session, Abiante, in his lead debate, highlighted that Mmesoma did not have the opportunity to defend herself or hold press conferences like JAMB. He called for a fair hearing for Mmesoma.
Idu Igaruwe, a member from Ebonyi State, criticized JAMB for its handling of the case, particularly regarding the allegation of forgery. He emphasized that forgery is a serious criminal offense and expressed concern about JAMB investigating the allegation without presuming innocence.
Following the debate, the House resolved that JAMB should suspend any action until the investigation is concluded. Additionally, an ad hoc committee will be set up to further investigate the matter.
