Brymo caused a stir on X a few weeks ago when he revealed his intention to include Adekunle Gold’s wife Simi in a song.

When Simi asked him to feature her song on her album, he disclosed that he had made a delicate request. She didn’t reply, though, and denied his request.

“They’re all thieves” – Brymo Blasts Burna Boy, Davido and Wizkid [VIDEO]

Nigerian alternative singer Brymo stirred controversy with his comments criticizing top Afropop stars, including Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid. In an interview with TVC Nigeria, he referred to them as “thieves” who copied Fela Kuti without demonstrating originality. Brymo argued that they haven’t faced the same struggles as Fela in pioneering the Afrobeat genre.

These remarks have generated a debate online, with some agreeing with Brymo’s assessment of originality, while others accused him of envy. As of now, Burna Boy, Davido, and Wizkid have not directly responded to Brymo’s criticisms.

This incident highlights the ongoing discussions in the music industry about tradition versus innovation in modern African music.

“My sexual advances was an artistic pursuit” — Brymo justifies sex-for-music clash with Simi

Notable singer Ọlawale Ọlọfọrọ, widely known as Brymo, defends his sexual advances towards his female colleague, Simi in exchange for a music colaboration.

This controversy arose when Brymo posted an audio clip on his social media platform, disclosing that he had declined to collaborate with Simi because she had refused to engage in a sexual relationship with him.

His revelation triggered a backlash, particularly from Simi’s husband, the singer Adekunle Gold, who issued a stern warning for Brymo to “stay away” from his wife and to cease “disrespecting” his family.

However, in a recent interview with TVC, Brymo defended his sexual proposition to Simi, characterizing it as an “artistic pursuit.”

    In his words;

“One day I was somewhere and I met Adekunle Gold, I was just like, ‘Oh! Gold.’ The first time I was ever meeting him. And he requested a collaboration… When he came to me, I just said flatly, ‘Oga, I’m not doing any collaboration right now.’

“Two weeks after, Simi came. I didn’t know they [Simi and Adekunle Gold were together]. I’m sure you all know about Falz. He took the fall that I was supposed to take. I was the target… But I’m a smart guy.

“When I saw her [Simi], I said no features except I am laying with the woman I am working with so it can really be intense. Did she not sleep with Adekunle Gold? Is that not why the music is extra good? But she said no, and I was like okay, bye-bye and then she left.

“She wasn’t the only one I proposed it to. But guess what? I’ve made music with seven women. I didn’t sleep with anyone of them.

“After that incident, I’ve recorded songs with four women. We didn’t even have that [sexual] conversation at all. We just made music. So, it wasn’t about me asking for sex for collaboration. No, no, it wasn’t about that. For me, it was an artistic pursuit.”

Nigerian singer Brymo made a controversial statement during an interview in which he criticized fellow singer Burna Boy, calling him cheap, a thief, unoriginal, and fake.

In response to a question about the alleged tussle between Rema and Burna Boy, Brymo said, “I saw a video where he said he was the ‘Jesus’ (inaudible statement) and he put Davido and Wizkid on some other mountain like that.”

“I think he is sleazy, he is cheap, he is a thief, very unoriginal, and very fake.”

Brymo’s statement has sparked reactions from many individuals who watched the video, with some expressing their opinions in the comment section of the post.

@IbrazcalypseNow: “The only reason I stopped listening to this dude is the things he says. Stopped trying too hard for attention, gba fun oga ee. He’s the fake one.”

@MikeBlaise8: “His music is no longer saving him, now he has turned to Daniel rags Ahbi regha just to stay relevant.”

@King_MayorBlack: “This guy has started moving mad small small. Make them sha dey pay attention to am.”

@EvanzzSzn: “Now everybody will come for him cuz he mentioned everybody Fave, but imagined if it was just only a name he mentioned, some fanbases will say he’s saying the truth.”

@JerrycharlesC: “Sometimes I miss this guys songs, but everytime I have the urge to listen, I remember he said ‘all the Igbos are fools’.”

@Abbye_edi__: “This Renown Tribalist hating on Burna Boy, how can an Artist talk down on sampling, knowing it’s a work of Art and Creativity. Global Artists like Kanye, Riri, Bey, Drake have all sample multiple songs in their career. Brymo would forever remain a local Western singer that he is.”

@NaijaMoonX: “I support him for this. If Taylor Swift is doing Country, Rock and Alternative. Not trying to rename these genres despite their differences and popularity. What’s the prob with Blacks. There’s Afro hip hop wait till someone said he’s doing Afro trap. Just crazy!”

Nigerian singer Olawale Ibrahim Ashimi, popularly known as Brymo, has revealed a surprising reason for declining a feature request from his fellow singer, Simi. In response to a fan suggesting that Simi’s husband, Adekunle Gold, should collaborate with Brymo on his upcoming album ‘Tequila Ever After,’ Brymo disclosed that both Adekunle Gold and Simi had approached him for collaborations in the past, but he turned down their requests.
