Well Known Recording Academy award Grammy Award has nominated Nigerian afrobeats singer Burna Boy’s album “African Giant” under the Best World Music Album category.
The 62nd Grammy award is slated to hold January 26th 2020, and our very own Burna Boy has been nominated, if he happens to win the award, then Burna Boy will be first Nigerian artiste winning the prestigious award.
The 19 tracks album by Burna Boy was released on the 26th July 2019 and less than six months since its release it has been noticed by the Recording Academy. That’s some iconic move right there.

South African rapper AKA demands a formal apology from the African giant, Burna Boy before he could enter the country.
Burna boy will be performing in South Africa in a few weeks and AKA is demanding Burna Boy give a personal apology for the things he said.
In a series of tweets in September, Burna Boy urged black foreigners living in SA to defend and protect themselves against xenophobic attacks.
In a now deleted tweet, he also told AKA to beef up his security, before giving him the middle finger.
He promised to never set foot in SA again until the government “wakes the f*ck up and really performs a miracle”.
However, a month later, he was announced as part of the Africans Unite line- up to “unify all Africans and speak out against femicide”.
The event takes place in Pretoria on November 24. As artists and event organisers, under the umbrella of Tshwane Entertainment Collective, this week slammed Burna Boy’s inclusion on the line-up, AKA took to Twitter to ask him to apologise.
Burna Boy has yet to respond to the request. The Fela in Versace star said SA took Burna Boy in “before he reached these levels” and challenged the Naija star to prove he is an “African giant” by apologising.

Burna Boy present the visual for his banging tune titled “Omo”

Burna Boy is on a mission to remind Africans everywhere about their roots in the continent, and Afrobeats is his tool. At a sold-out Wembley Arena, the triumphant tone is set early: a curtain drops and a colossal gorilla is revealed. When its jaw slowly opens, Burna Boy is revealed on its tongue.
Strapped into a harness, he glides through the air from its open mouth to the tip of the stage. Microphone in hand and the crowd screaming under his feet, stretching their fingers to the sky, he moans the uplifting lyrics to the title track from his 2019 album African Giant: “Tell ’em Africa we don’t tire!” Other tracks from the album are as enchanting as his introduction.
Over 19 songs he mixes Afrobeats rhythms with influences that span R&B and reggae, a blend that is making him the genre’s first global breakout star. Accompanied by a live band and choir, the gig has the feeling of a coronation of Nigeria’s latest musical king.
Killin Dem is captivating, the jittery drums and choppy vocal delivery creating mosh-pit circles like craters across the arena. When Burna Boy screams “Gbese!” during the hook, the craters collapse in on themselves, and 12,000 people vigorously jerk their shoulders to the scattergun percussion, resembling a mass synchronised swimming routine. Burna Boy has elegance, grace and charisma, a magnetic aura that follows him like a shadow; he dances as if music vibrates in his bones, and gives his vocals a deep, raspy croon. Special guests add gloss to the evening and show how highly he is regarded.
There is an appearance from Burna’s fellow Afrobeats titan Wizkid; Dave sprints to the stage to spar over their summer anthem Location, and Stormzy marches out for a fervent delivery of Vossi Bop, exchanging a long hug with Burna. The evening ends with Ye, the song that has spearheaded Afrobeats’ global expansion, its soft, enticing drums and echoing, easy hook digestible for ears from all continents.
He finds his groove amid the tender piano chords and leads the crowd into a hypnotic sermon, closing out a historic night for a true giant of African music.

The starboy Entertainment CEO Wizkid went on instagram to send his congratulatory message to his colleagues Burna Boy after Burna was announced as the winner of the Best African Act award at the 2019 MTV EMA’s.
Burna Boy who was nominated alongside fellow Nigerian, Teni the Entertainer, South Africa’s Prince Kaybee and Nasty C, Harmonize from Tanzania and Togo’s duo TooFan, took home the prestigious award at a star-studded event held in Seville, Spain on Sunday, November 3rd, 2019.

On The 2019 MTV EMA event that took place at Seville, African Giant, Burna Boy took home the award for the best African Act amidst of Teni, Nasty C, Harmonize, Prince Kaybee and Toofan. The MTV EMA s are (sadly) over for another year and, wow, what a special night it was for music.
Taking place in Seville, Spain, it was a real celebration for the biggest names in music and especially for the women we stan.
From the moment that Dua Lipa opened the stage and Halsey collected the first award of the night, it was clear that the women who dominated pop in 2019 were getting their dues.
