When asked to choose his favorite artist among the prominent trio in the music industry—Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy—the RB Leipzig’s full-back promptly named Burna Boy.

He expressed, “Burna Boy, because he’s producing fantastic music.”

The German DFL Pokal champion proceeded to mention some of Burna’s chart-topping tracks, even grooving to a few of them. He elaborated on the captivating impact that the Nigerian superstar’s music has on him, saying, “You know, ‘On The Low,’ there’s so much. It’s all good vibes. Nigerian television host Lerin Nicodemus has sparked a heated discussion in the music industry by dubbing Grammy-winning musician Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu as “the least inspiring artist.”

Nicodemus made this provocative statement in response to recent remarks by Burna Boy, where he suggested that Afrobeats music lacks “substance.”

The source of the media personality’s criticism lies in Burna Boy’s perceived shift in perspective towards Afrobeats.

She accused Burna Boy of riding the tide of global fame and profiting from Afrobeats‘ popularity on the world stage, only to now criticize the genre for its supposed shallowness.

Lerin Nicodemus further contended that Burna Boy’s actions made him seem hypocritical, as he initially established his image based on Pan-African activism inspired by the iconic Fela Kuti.

In her declaration, Nicodemus proceeded to depict Burna Boy as a “phony” for allegedly not embodying the Pan-African principles he frequently referenced in his music and public image.

She highlighted that despite positioning himself as a proponent of societal transformation, Burna Boy has remained silent or ridiculed societal concerns during periods of political and social turmoil in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

The TV presenter’s criticism didn’t end with Burna Boy’s activism. Nicodemus drew a comparison, casting him in a less favorable light compared to his contemporaries, Wizkid and Davido, who she believes actively champion Afrobeats and provide support to emerging artists.

She accused Burna Boy of diminishing others whenever the chance presents itself, a sharp contrast to the supportive stance taken by Wizkid and Davido.

Burna Boy dragged Daniel Regha as he referred to him as a dancing doughnut.

Burnaboy made this statement while appearing as a guest on the US show 360 with Speedy, which is hosted by media personality Speedy Morman.

It all started when Burnaboy, the “Last Last” crooner, revealed that Afrobeats as a music genre is primarily about nothing and, as a result, lacks substance, while also revealing that he established his own music genre known as Afro Fusion.

“Moreover, the album’s title doesn’t align with its theme. Burna’s diss towards Nigerians in ‘Thanks’ featuring J. Cole was uncalled for, and some of the intros were unnecessary. The album didn’t live up to the anticipation or the hype. No offense.”

Grammy-winning artist and international superstar, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has disclosed that his upcoming seventh studio album, ‘I Told Them,’ was inspired by his old tweets on Twitter. Burna Boy shared that he delved into his Twitter history and discovered that he had previously tweeted about the achievements he’s currently experiencing. This discovery prompted him to name the album ‘I Told Them.’

Burna Boy revealed this during an interview with the American media outlet, Complex. He explained that the “them” in the album title refers to anyone who didn’t believe in him at any point in time.

He shared, “The way the name of this album came up is because one random day, I just went on my Twitter [page], and I started scrolling down to my old tweets. I wanted to see what the first tweet I ever tweeted was, for some strange reason. And then it just sent me down this rabbit hole, where I’m just looking at everything I ever said. I’m like, wow! It’s crazy. I really did say all these sh*ts that are happening now. And that kind of made me name my album, ‘I Told Them’.”

Burna Boy’s album ‘I Told Them’ is set to be released on Friday, August 25, 2023. He also revealed that the album will have a sequel that will be released at a later date.

“So, at the end of the day, I think that God doesn’t make mistakes. What I mean is that the timing is perfect for each person. If Fela were here today and his career started now, he might not have the same freedom to explore his creative consciousness, mainly because today’s society doesn’t align with that spiritual essence. Today, spirituality is nearly absent.

“The current environment is largely driven by ignorance and foolishness. While it was similar in Fela’s time, it wasn’t as prominently showcased or accessible. Presently, everything seems to be defined by ignorance and foolishness.

“I’m grateful that he [Fela] existed in his time, as it allows us to experience the authentic nature of his being, understand his core values, and grasp the messages he conveyed to us.”
