German football star names Burna Boy as his favourite Afrobeats artiste

Benjamin Paa Kwesi Henrichs, the skilled professional footballer from Germany who plays for RB Leipzig, has openly declared Grammy-winning artist Burna Boy as his preferred Afrobeats musician.

This revelation came through a video shared by sports journalist Oma Akatugba, where Henrichs could be seen enthusiastically singing along to songs by the self-proclaimed African Giant.

When asked to choose his favorite artist among the prominent trio in the music industry—Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy—the RB Leipzig’s full-back promptly named Burna Boy.

He expressed, “Burna Boy, because he’s producing fantastic music.”

The German DFL Pokal champion proceeded to mention some of Burna’s chart-topping tracks, even grooving to a few of them. He elaborated on the captivating impact that the Nigerian superstar’s music has on him, saying, “You know, ‘On The Low,’ there’s so much. It’s all good vibes. Davido and Wizkid are also incredibly talented. I particularly love Davido’s ‘Fall’.”

This showcases Henrichs‘ admiration for Burna Boy’s music and his appreciation for the talents of other prominent Nigerian artists like Davido and Wizkid.

“Burna Boy is the biggest fraud and most uninspiring artiste” – TV presenter Lerin (Video)

Nigerian television host Lerin Nicodemus has sparked a heated discussion in the music industry by dubbing Grammy-winning musician Damini “Burna Boy” Ogulu as “the least inspiring artist.”

Nicodemus made this provocative statement in response to recent remarks by Burna Boy, where he suggested that Afrobeats music lacks “substance.”

The source of the media personality’s criticism lies in Burna Boy’s perceived shift in perspective towards Afrobeats.

She accused Burna Boy of riding the tide of global fame and profiting from Afrobeats‘ popularity on the world stage, only to now criticize the genre for its supposed shallowness.

Lerin Nicodemus further contended that Burna Boy’s actions made him seem hypocritical, as he initially established his image based on Pan-African activism inspired by the iconic Fela Kuti.

In her declaration, Nicodemus proceeded to depict Burna Boy as a “phony” for allegedly not embodying the Pan-African principles he frequently referenced in his music and public image.

She highlighted that despite positioning himself as a proponent of societal transformation, Burna Boy has remained silent or ridiculed societal concerns during periods of political and social turmoil in Nigeria and Africa as a whole.

The TV presenter’s criticism didn’t end with Burna Boy’s activism. Nicodemus drew a comparison, casting him in a less favorable light compared to his contemporaries, Wizkid and Davido, who she believes actively champion Afrobeats and provide support to emerging artists.

She accused Burna Boy of diminishing others whenever the chance presents itself, a sharp contrast to the supportive stance taken by Wizkid and Davido.

Burnaboy made this statement while appearing as a guest on the US show 360 with Speedy, which is hosted by media personality Speedy Morman.

It all started when Burnaboy, the “Last Last” crooner, revealed that Afrobeats as a music genre is primarily about nothing and, as a result, lacks substance, while also revealing that he established his own music genre known as Afro Fusion.

Burnaboy’s statement elicited various reactions online, with internet users including Daniel Regha trending for the manner he drags Burnaboy in his tweets.

Daniel Regha accused Burnaboy of being unoriginal and always sampling other people’s songs and has recently been realising mid-songs.

Below is a snapshot of Daniel Regha’s tweet.

In response, Burnaboy, who is preparing to release a new song titled I Told Them, pulls Daniel Regha to filth, claiming that he longs for the set of foolish and dumb people and then referring to him as a dancing doughnut.

  • Critic describes Burna Boy’s new album ‘I Told Them’ as ‘worst career effort’

Critic describes Burna Boy’s new album ‘I Told Them’ as ‘worst career effort’

Less than a week after the release of Burna Boy’s ‘I Told Them’ album, a critic has labeled it as the artist’s weakest effort since the inception of his career.

A provocative figure on Twitter, Daniel Regha, made this assertion in response to Burna Boy’s statement that the album was influenced by Twitter.

In a tweet, Daniel Regha rated the album’s quality as 3 out of 10, emphasizing that the songs lacked substance and were primarily driven by beats.

He went on to criticize Burna Boy for directly criticizing Nigerians in one of the tracks titled ‘Thanks,’ which features American rapper J. Cole.

    In his words:

“Burna’s new album (‘I Told Them’) rates a 3/10; it’s the least impressive work from Burna since he embarked on his career. The beats are solid, but the songs lack depth. The entire album seems to champion arrogance, endorse violence, and explicit lyrics.

“Moreover, the album’s title doesn’t align with its theme. Burna’s diss towards Nigerians in ‘Thanks’ featuring J. Cole was uncalled for, and some of the intros were unnecessary. The album didn’t live up to the anticipation or the hype. No offense.”

This critique has generated diverse responses from other music enthusiasts, with some agreeing with the assessment while others hold a different perspective.

Afrobeat musician Burna Boy has confronted the allegations surrounding his alleged involvement in a shooting incident that took place at Cubana Club a year ago through his latest musical project, an album titled “I Told Them.”

One particular track from the album, named “Thanks,” featuring American rapper J. Cole, has garnered significant attention due to its direct engagement with the suspicions surrounding Burna Boy’s role in the Cubana shooting.

The incident in question dates back to 2022 when Burna Boy faced accusations of being involved in a shooting, supposedly triggered by his desire to speak with another individual’s spouse. “My forthcoming album ‘I Told Them’ was inspired by Twitter” – Burna Boy

Grammy-winning artist and international superstar, Damini Ogulu, widely known as Burna Boy, has disclosed that his upcoming seventh studio album, ‘I Told Them,’ was inspired by his old tweets on Twitter. Burna Boy shared that he delved into his Twitter history and discovered that he had previously tweeted about the achievements he’s currently experiencing. This discovery prompted him to name the album ‘I Told Them.’

Burna Boy revealed this during an interview with the American media outlet, Complex. He explained that the “them” in the album title refers to anyone who didn’t believe in him at any point in time.

He shared, “The way the name of this album came up is because one random day, I just went on my Twitter [page], and I started scrolling down to my old tweets. I wanted to see what the first tweet I ever tweeted was, for some strange reason. And then it just sent me down this rabbit hole, where I’m just looking at everything I ever said. I’m like, wow! It’s crazy. I really did say all these sh*ts that are happening now. And that kind of made me name my album, ‘I Told Them’.”

Burna Boy’s album ‘I Told Them’ is set to be released on Friday, August 25, 2023. He also revealed that the album will have a sequel that will be released at a later date.

  • American rapper, Joe Budden names Burna Boy ‘biggest artiste in the world’

American rapper, Joe Budden names Burna Boy ‘biggest artiste in the world’

Prominent American rapper, Joe Budden, has bestowed a remarkable title upon the Grammy-winning Nigerian artist Burna Boy, declaring him as the ‘biggest artiste in the world’. Budden’s recognition of Burna Boy’s influence in the music industry came to light during a recent episode of his podcast on the Joe Budden Network.

Despite his acknowledgment of Burna Boy’s prominence, Budden expressed his dissatisfaction with Burna Boy’s decision to acquire rights to Jamaican artist Byron Messia’s hit track ‘Talibans’ following his participation in its remix. Budden made a point of highlighting his strong opposition to similar actions, even citing an instance involving Kanye West’s behavior a few years ago.

Budden conveyed his perspective on the matter, stating:

“I’m never a fan of individuals claiming ownership of pre-existing songs after contributing to a remix. To the biggest artiste in the world, Burna Boy, yeah, I’m not a fan of when that occurs. If you were responsible for the hit, then capitalize on it. If Burna Boy is involved, then it should belong to him. However, I’m not privy to the specifics of the arrangement between Byron Messia and Burna Boy.”

Budden further recalled instances when such arrangements did not yield favorable outcomes for artists, specifically mentioning the case of Designer and Kanye West, where he strongly opposed a similar course of action.

  • “It’s good Fela didn’t exist in this generation, those celebrating him today would’ve been calling for his arrest” – Burna Boy

“It’s good Fela didn’t exist in this generation, those celebrating him today would’ve been calling for his arrest” – Burna Boy

Renowned musician Burna Boy has shared his perspective that it’s fortunate that the legendary musician Fela Kuti didn’t exist in the present generation, as he believes that Fela’s modern-day fans would likely have criticized him and even called for his arrest. Burna Boy expressed this viewpoint during a recent interview with Apple Music’s Zane Lowe in New York.

Burna Boy, known for hits like ‘Odogwu,’ has a family connection to Fela Kuti through his maternal grandfather, who was Fela’s first manager. Burna Boy explained that he believes Fela’s impact was best suited for the era in which he lived, as it allowed him to communicate his messages through his music.

    He commented:

“What I’ve come to realize is that the times we live in are quite interesting. Fela, during his time, was going through experiences that, if he were present today, might have generated a completely different reaction. Many of the Nigerians celebrating Fela today could have been the same individuals using platforms like Twitter to call for Fela’s arrest.

“So, at the end of the day, I think that God doesn’t make mistakes. What I mean is that the timing is perfect for each person. If Fela were here today and his career started now, he might not have the same freedom to explore his creative consciousness, mainly because today’s society doesn’t align with that spiritual essence. Today, spirituality is nearly absent.

“The current environment is largely driven by ignorance and foolishness. While it was similar in Fela’s time, it wasn’t as prominently showcased or accessible. Presently, everything seems to be defined by ignorance and foolishness.

“I’m grateful that he [Fela] existed in his time, as it allows us to experience the authentic nature of his being, understand his core values, and grasp the messages he conveyed to us.”
