In a recent interview with Hits Radio, singer Ed Sheeran shared a surprising tidbit about his hit song “Shape of You.”
He revealed that the song was originally intended for Barbadian pop icon Rihanna.
Praising Rihanna’s genre-bending abilities, Sheeran explained that she was his muse while writing the song, which was released in 2017 and went on to win the Grammy Award for Best Pop Solo Performance.
This wasn’t the only interesting revelation from Sheeran. He also disclosed that he wrote Justin Bieber’s hit “Love Yourself,” a song that was initially rejected by several artists before finding its home with Bieber.
Rihanna is genre-less, she can do anything. She’s the grail for songwriters. When I wrote Shape Of You, the person I was writing in my mind for was Rihanna,” Sheeran said.
Famous British musician Ed Sheeran has revealed in an interview how he got so excited after recording with Nigerian superstar Burna Boy.
Ed Sheeran spoke about this in an interview, explaining that Burna Boy is an artist he frequently collaborates with, a fact that the Nigerian musician has confirmed.
Talking about Burna Boy, he said: “This is the most marijuana I’ve ever seen anyone smoke.”
According to him, the time he worked with the African Giant that day was from 10 am to 5 pm, so they were locked in the studio, the door was closed, and there was a lot of smoke.

Shape of you is the exclusive song by the British rapper, Ed Sheeran.
Ed Sheeran, an English singer-songwriter, has a song called “Shape of You.” It was made available on January 6, 2017, along with “Castle on the Hill,” as one of the double lead singles from his third studio album.
Ed Sheeran, Steve Mac, and Johnny McDaid wrote the dancehall-influenced pop song. Kandi Burruss, Tameka “Tiny” Cottle, and Kevin “She’kspere” Briggs are also listed as writers because they interpolated TLC’s “No Scrubs” for the song. Sheeran and Mac produced the song.
The track served as the final composition for Sheeran’s third album. The song was not meant to be a part of the album because he had just finished writing all the songs he wanted for it.
Rudimental originally intended for it to be a duet with Rihanna, but the head of the record company persuaded him to keep the song for himself. He stated:
“[‘Shape of You’] is actually a really random one because I went in to write songs for other people with a guy called Steve Mac and Johnny McDaid, and we were writing this song and I was like ‘this would really work for Rihanna,’” he explained. “And then I started singing lyrics like ‘putting Van the Man on the jukebox’ and I was like ‘well she’s not really going to sing that, is she?’ And then we sort of decided halfway through that we were just going to make it for me.”
Sheeran claims that Steve Mac began the songwriting session by playing the song’s opening chords on the keyboard. Sheeran then joined in and added percussion to the song by tapping his guitar. He claimed that when writing the song, he made an effort to keep the music simple “rather than something more elaborate, “more stripped”: “I’m an acoustic artist, first and foremost.
And because I don’t have all the other musicians present when I perform live, I can’t duplicate these things.” Sheeran altered the original melody by interpolating “No Scrubs” onto a portion of the melody in order to give the song an R&B vibe.
Additionally, he disclosed that McDaid changed the song’s lyrics because he felt that the line “I’m in love with your body” sounded objectifying. The song’s original lyrics did not end with the words “the shape of you” in the chorus.

On May 5, 2019, Sheeran shared a sneak peek of the song on his Instagram, and on May 6, 2019, Bieber shared another portion of it. On May 7, both artists revealed the song’s full title and release date.
The song with dancehall influences reached number one in 26 different countries (including the UK Singles Chart). In addition, it peaked at number two in seven additional nations, including the US Billboard Hot 100; however, Lil Nas X and Billy Ray Cyrus’s hit song “Old Town Road” prevented it from reaching the top spot in each of those nations. “I Don’t Care” received diamond certification in Brazil and France, six-times platinum certification in Canada, and multi-platinum certification in another twelve nations.

Ed Sheeran comes through with the official music video for his previously released track titled “South of the Border” featuring Cuban-American singer Camila Cabello and the talented female rapper Cardi B.
It was one of the two sixth singles from Sheeran’s fourth studio album, No.6 Collaborations Project (2019), along with “Antisocial, to be released on October 4th.
The song’s lyrics were written by Sheeran, Cabello, Cardi B, Steve Mac, Fred Gibson, and Jordan Thorpe. Sheeran, Mac, and Gibson also handled the song’s production.
It received a Gold or higher certification in eleven countries, and it entered the top 10 in eight of those nations.
It would be his next single, Sheeran’s manager said in response to a fan’s message. A few days later, Sheeran shared an Instagram story with a photo of his manager responding. Cabello published a promo for the music video on September 28.
