During a recent interview with The Beat 99.9 FM, Lagos, singer Simi expressed her admiration for her colleague Chike and his captivating voice. She described his voice as being filled with emotions, emphasizing her love for it.
Simi and Chike collaborated on a love song titled “Running To You” in 2021. According to Simi, Chike was extremely grateful for the opportunity to collaborate with her. She mentioned that when Chike initially approached her with the song, she was impressed by its beauty.
Simi also highlighted that despite having worked on numerous features before, she appreciated Chike’s genuine gratitude and the way he consistently expressed it throughout their collaboration.

Simi stated, “I don’t think I have ever been heartbroken. I don’t know, that song [‘Stranger’] came to me very easily. I guess, maybe I’m just a champion for people that have taken breakfasts [experienced heartbreak] severally [laughs]. I’m here for them. I mean, somebody has to be.”
She further explained that she wanted to explore a different perspective on love in her music. Specifically, she wanted to highlight the idea of being in a relationship where one starts to change and compromise in ways they never thought they would. Eventually, they may look at themselves and realize they have transformed into someone unrecognizable.
Simi believed that this perspective would resonate with people, particularly those currently going through a heartbreak. Thus, she aimed to capture those emotions in her song.
