Nigerian hip-hop artist Erhiga Agarivbie, popularly known as Erigga, has revealed that he started boycotting the Headies Award after his album ‘The Erigma II’ did not win the Best Rap Album category at the 14th edition of the award show in 2020.
Erigga accused the organizers of the Headies of disrespecting artists from the South-South region of Nigeria. He took to his Twitter account on Wednesday, shortly after the nominees for the 16th Headies were announced, to voice his grievances.
Despite releasing his album ‘The Lost Boy’ during the eligible period, the rapper did not receive any nominations. Expressing his frustration, Erigga shared the album cover of ‘The Erigma II’ on Twitter, stating that he decided to boycott the Headies due to the perceived lack of respect towards artists from the South-South region.
His tweet read, “Na from here I take boycott all these fckers (Headies). The disrespect was too much for the South-South to take… If you don’t like us and won’t respect our craft, then it’s fck you and everything you represent; that’s it.”
